Recycling and Waste Initiatives 2008

 2008 Initiatives  Progress
 Review and make recommendations to improve IT and AV (audio visual) equipment re-use/recycle programs within Monash  A meeting about advertising on Monash Market place and other approporiate recycling issues, for exmaple a Monash recycling centre, to be discussed with a Monash wide group on 3rd July, 2008.
 Implement recommendations for recycling/re-use (possibly via Monash Market Place  As above
 Embed standards in IT equipment preferred supplier arrangements that facilitate e-waste disposal – eg, RoHS  This is being conducted in conjunction with the development of the 2008 IT tender.
 Develop a University-wide e-waste program with Office of Environmental Sustainability (OES)  Currently reviewing third party companies and their services
 Review and improve uptake of duplex printing, and embed into Standard Operating Environment (SOE) with duplex and black and white options as default  
 Encourage the use of shared printers  This is to be included in the development of an overall education strategy
 Further the use of recycled paper (with OES)  A new standard of minimum 80% recycled matter is in the process of being implemented by the Procurement Board
 Implement new Monash Fax service (PC based and will reduce paper) and develop disposal strategy for obsolete fax machines  The new Monash Fax service has been deployed in ITS departments and Berwick campus, with the Peninsula campus soon to follow
