Monash leads the way on national data management

Monash University was recently awarded a contract by the Commonwealth Government to establish the Australian National Data Service (ANDS).

The six month establishment project will be led by Andrew Treloar as the Project Director and involve staff from Monash, the Australian National University and CSIRO. The project will also receive support from ITS, the Library and the e-Research Centre.

The outcomes of this establishment project will be:

  • a collaborative agreement for the delivery of ANDS
  • a contract between this new entity and the Commonwealth Department of Innnovation, Industry, Science and Research to deliver ANDS
  • a detailed investment plan for the first year of operation
  • a selection process for the ANDS Executive Director.

It is anticipated that Monash will be the lead funding agency for ANDS and that ANDS will be funded for the next three financial years.

This contract success builds on the work done to develop the Monash University Information Management Strategy, the more recent Data Management Policy and Plan, Monash's leading of the well-regarded ARROW, DART and ARCHER projects, and its track record in e-Research and data management storage infrastructure.

Further details on the national context can be found at the National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Strategy website under capabilities and collaborative investment plan platforms.

Further details on the ANDS vision (pdf 2.6mb) can also be downloaded.
