HOAX email message - request verification of Monash email account

Students and staff are advised that a hoax email message has been delivered to many email accounts. The hoax message requests the recipient to  VERIFY YOUR MONASH EMAIL ACCOUNT. This is a spam message from an external source outside of the University which is designed to trick recipients into replying and providing valid Monash information.

Please DO NOT respond to this message. It is not related to your Monash email account or Monash email systems.

A filter has now been placed on the Monash email service to remove this email before it is delivered to any Monash account. Visit the following links for more information on student and staff email security.

The hoax message appears as below:

Dear Monash Email Account Owner,

This message is from monash messaging center to all monash email account owners. We are currently upgrading our data base and e-mail account center. We are deleting all unused monash email account to create more space for new accounts.

To prevent your account from closing you will have to update it below so
that we will know that it's a present used account.

CONFIRM YOUR EMAIL IDENTITY BELOW

Country or Territory : ..........

Warning!!! Account owner that refuses to update his or her account
within Seven days of receiving this warning will lose his or her account
permanently.
