New SMS service for crisis communications

A new crisis communication project is underway where staff and students will receive messages quickly and effectively via SMS in a crisis situation. Message recipients can be targeted by campus and staff or student cohorts.

A member of the Crisis Management Team will be able to compose and send messages. The project includes processes to capture staff and student mobile numbers.

Australian campuses should have the SMS service rolled out by semester one 2008. The infrastructure and supporting applications will be designed to facilitate the extension of the service to the overseas campuses.

The new service complements Monash’s extensive crisis management and recovery planning program.
