Monash Calendar Technical Information

If you require help or training with using Calendar, then visit the Calendar Training page.

For creation and modification of calendar resources, use the Administration Resource Tool

Nodes

Nodes are a separate instances of the calendar service. At present both nodes exist on the same server (with the same calendar1 hostname). There are interconnections in place so that users on one node can see and schedule users and resources existing on the other node.

There is a limit on the number of accounts we can have on a single calendar 'node'. Until now we have been able to remove enough old accounts so that we have never hit the limit. Now that the limit has been hit there was no choice but to add the extra node which means that users must now select between the two nodes.

Designate Access

A calendar designate is someone who is given the rights to act on someone else's behalf. Different access rights can be given to specific people. For more information and help on designate access then visit the Calendar Training page.

You can only grant designate access to users on the same node as yourself. If their account is on the alternate node, your account will need to be moved.

To move nodes, follow the Guide to moving Calendar nodes

Resource Naming Standards

The major purpose of these naming standards is to make it easy for your customers to find what they are looking for. Some of these affect the technical capacity people will have to find your resource, others will just help people to find it in a logical place because of the consistent style applied across the MMS.

Keep in mind that searching on calendar resources only works for 'fixed*', and not '*fixed', ie. it's a lot easier to find 'Meeting Room 28/115' than '28/115 Meeting Room', because you can only search for 'Meeting*'.

As part of keeping style consistent and making it easier to find resources related to a particular department or area, all new resources will be created with a departmen tal prefix (eg Adm, ITS, CeLTS). So to find an ITS resource, you can search for "ITS*" or "IT S Meeting*".
