Internet Access authentication

Browser configuration for Mac OSx Safari

The following instructions will allow Monash staff and students to configure Safari on Mac OSx to use the Monash Internet service. This is required for external Monash internet access.

Step 1

Click on the Apple menu then select System Preferences in the drop-down menu that appears.

In the System Preferences window click on the Network icon located under the Internet & Network section.

Select Ethernet device then the Advanced button on the bottom right.

Under Configure Proxies: Manually, uncheck all the protocol boxes and remove the web proxy server proxy.monash.edu.au along with the username/password.

Ensure that all the protocols are unchecked and the web proxy server address box is empty as is shown in the image below.

Step 5

Select Using a PAC file from the Configure Proxies drop down selection and remove any entry in the PAC File URL.

Click OK, and close the System Preferences window.

Step 6

Mac OSx is now configured to use the Monash Internet Service and will be able to access external web pages provided that a valid Authcate username and password is entered when requested.

When you browse to an external website you will be redirected to authenticate.
