How can I use the Monash Address Book (Monash Directory) in Outlook Express?

This document will guide you through the set up for using the Monash Address Book. This will allow you can search the entire Monash Directory for staff email address. Please see the main guides page for a list of other categories.

NOTE: For security reasons, this service is only available to:

  • Users on a Monash Campus.
  • Home users of the Monash Dial up service.
  • Home users with a VPN (Virtual Private Network) Client installed.

Configuring the Monash Address Book

To begin configuring the Address book, open Outlook Express:

  1. Select Composition and Addressing
  2. In the Addressing box, check Use a different LDAP server
  3. Press the Edit Directories button, and select ADD
  4. Enter the Server Name as: directory.monash.edu.au and press More Settings
  5. In the Microsoft LDAP Directory window, select the Connection tab :
    • Enter the name of the address book. (e.g. Monash Address Book)
    • Enter the Port as: 389.
    • Leave the Use Secure Sockets Layer unchecked.
    • Press Apply
  6. Select the Search tab:
    • Enter o=Monash University,c=AU in the Search base field.
    • Press Apply
  7. Press OK

The Monash Address Book should now be set up.
