Report Spam Emails

There are three recommended ways to report Spam email.

Spam originating from outside Monash

If you have Spam filtering enabled on your account and you still receive an email which you consider to be Spam which has come from outside of Monash (sent from an external non-Monash address), please forward the email as an attachment to the following address:

spam.report@monash.edu.au

You can forward a message as an attachment in Thunderbird by going to Message->Forward As->Attachment. WebMail and my.monash always forwards messages as attachments.

The Monash team responsible for maintaining the Spam detection software will review the emails forwarded to the spam.report@monash.edu.au address on a regular basis and modify the Spam detection software to better detect these reported Spam emails in the future.

Please note: you will not receive a reply when reporting spam.

Spam sent by a Staff member or student of Monash

If you receive spam from a Monash email address, and wish to report it, you can forward it to us for further investigation. We have a designated workgroup that monitors internally generated spam, and will act upon any reports of users abusing the email system this way.

To report spam to this workgroup forward the email as an attachment to abuse@monash.edu.au (do not copy and paste as this breaks important message trails). The workgroup will trace and take action only when it has been alerted to the spam email by a user.

You can forward a message as an attachment in Thunderbird by going to Message->Forward As->Attachment. WebMail and my.monash always forwards messages as attachments.

A nominated Monash officer will deal with all internal transgressions according to the Information Technology Use Policy - Staff and other authorised users (reference 'Possible Consequences' para 5.7) or the Acceptable use of information technology facilities by students policy.
