Setting an Email Whitelist in Netscape 4.7x

You can create a whitelist mail filter so that Messenger will file mail from particular senders into a folder of your choice regardless of it's X-Spam-Level. This is useful for bypassing your Spam filter when email that is marked as Spam is actually something you want to receive.

To edit/create mail filters in Netscape v4.7x select Edit, Message Filters...

Click the New... button on the right hand side. First give your new filter a relevant name (such as Whitelist). Click on the drop down box that currently has "subject" selected and select "sender" instead. In the drop down box to the right select "is" then in the final box input the e-mail address of the person you would like to receive mail from regardless of it's "X-Spam-Level".

You may set up a Whitelist for many addresses or even all mail from sent from an entire domain. In order to do this click the More button on the left and then select the appropriate details. For example, as detailed below, we have chosen to receive all mail coming from anyone that contains notspam.com in their email address.

Next, ensure "Move to folder" is selected then from the next drop down box select where you would like to file your mail. Then click OK.

Filters are applied in order. Once a filter has been matched it will not check other filters. Therefore it is necessary to have Whitelist above your Spam filter(s) to ensure it has priority.

With Whitelist selected, click the black up arrow to move Whitelist above your Spam filter(s).

In this example all mail sent from afriend@anymail.com and any e-mail address containing notspam.com will be sent to the Inbox regardless of the X-Spam-Level in the e-mail header.
