How to install iFolder

This procedure requires that iFolder has been enabled for your account. The iFolder agent software will not be able to login unless you have an account.

1. Using your web browser, go to ifolder.monash.edu.au.

2. Download and install the appropriate Windows or Linux iFolder application by selecting the link in the left hand menu, and clicking Run.

3. Select your preferred language and click next.

4 . Read and close the Terms and Conditions window, and follow the prompts to continue the installation.

5. Restart your computer as prompted.

6. Upon restart you will see this window – select Continue.

7. Tick the check box and login to the iFolder client using your Authcate Username and Password.

8. You will be prompted to enter a pass phrase. This is used to encode your data and keeps it from being readable by anyone else. Enter a phrase that you will remember. You could use your Authcate password, but something different is more secure.

9. A shortcut to your iFolder directory is placed on the desktop. Use the shortcut to go to your iFolder directory.

10. Move your files into your iFolder directory. These files will then be updated on the iFolder server.

11. Install the iFolder client on any other machine(s) where you want your files updated.

Monash staff are also able to access their iFolder through NetStorage, which is accessible via the my.monash portal. If you use the Web browser to access your files when you are on a machine that doesn't have the iFolder client installed on it, remember to upload the file once modifications have been made.

Four conditions must be met to synchronize your files using iFolder :

  • The iFolder session must be active.
  • Your workstation must be connected to an active Internet or network connection and your Web browser set to work online.
  • The iFolder server must be available.
  • You must successfully log in to the iFolder server.
