How to download the VLC media player to use TV streaming

TV streaming is a free service that allows you to watch certain free-to-air television stations on a computer connected to the Monash Network. Stations include the ABC, 7, 9, 10 and SBS as well select overseas channels.

The service is accessible after downloading the VLC media player to your computer (IT lab managers can log an ITS request to make this service available in student labs).

Before you start

All staff should be able to access the VLC media player. To check if you have access to the player follow these steps.

  1. Click on Start button then Run menu item

  2. Select

    Programs videoLAN VLC media player

  3. If the VLC icon is listed then you can access TV streaming by following the steps on how to set up TV streaming.

    If the VLC icon is not listed follow the steps below.

To download the VLC media player

  1. On your desktop click on Application Explorer icon

    If the Application Explorer icon does not exist

    • Click Start button, then Run menu item

      Type 'nalwin' into the Open box

  2. Click on Staff-AU tree then SOE icon then Win XP icon

  3. Click on VLC player icon and acknowledge installation.

    If the VLC player icon icon does not appear after completing these instructions then please complete an ITS request form to request that this is made available to you.
