Monash eduroam configuration: Pocket PC / PDA

Prerequisites

Before installing the eduroam client, please ensure that the synchronisation between your PDA and PC is working correctly and you have registered your PDA wireless card. Staff should contact their Faculty IT Support or local TWP representative to have their card registered.

Installing the eduroam client

  1. Synchronise your PDA to your PC.
  2. Download and run the above client installation file.
  3. Click the Next button on the Welcome screen.
  4. Read the License Agreement and click the I Agree button to continue.
  5. Click the Install button.

  7. Click OK to finish PC setup.

  9. Look on your PDA and select Yes to install the cab file
    (If prompted for select location options when installing the cab file, please choose to install on Device)
  10. Eduroam client installation completed

  11. Select ok to finish

Establishing a wireless connection

Note: Different brands of PDA devices have different menu options, please use the text in bold as a guide for identifying and selecting the correct options for your device.

  1. Select Start button then select Settings
  2. Select Connections then select Wi-Fi Utility
  3. Select Menu then select Turn on WiFi
  4. Select Monash-Wireless-Net [Unsecured] then select OK

  6. Select 'The Internet (or work via a VPN)' then select Connect

  8. Once you are able to successfully establish a wireless connection, select OK and follow the directions below for configuring the eduroam client.

Configuring the eduroam client

  1. Select Start then Settings then Connections then Wi-Fi Utilities then Site Survey
  2. Select and hold eduroam until the next screen appears
  3. Select eduroam
  4. Select 'The Internet' for 'Connects to:'

  6. Select 802.1x and make sure 'Use IEEE 802.1x network access control' box is ticked
  7. Select 'SecureW2' for 'EAP type:'

  9. Select New and enter in the name field Eduroam
  10. Select Connection and remove the tick on the box 'Use alternate outer identity'

  12. Select Certificates and remove the tick on the box 'Verify server certificates'
  13. Select Authentication and ensure 'PAP' is selected for 'Select Authentication Method:'

  15. Select User Account and remove the tick on the box 'Prompt user for credentials'

  17. Insert your Monash Authcate user name followed by the @monash.edu.au domain. For example it should be similar to jbloggs@monash.edu.au
  18. Insert your Monash Authcate password in the password field
  19. Select OK then OK then OK to finish
  20. Select and hold eduroam select connect
  21. Launch your Pocket PC Internet Explorer and insert http://my.monash.edu.au into the address field. You should see the page load successfully.
