How to set up Monash Newsgroups in Outlook Express

This document will guide you through the steps to configuring and subscribing Outlook Express to Monash Newsgroups.

How to set up a Monash Newsgroup Account in Outlook Express

  1. Create a new Newsgroup account: Tools > New > Account
  2. Select the Mail tab, press Add and select News

  1. Enter your name, press Next
  2. Enter your email address, press Next
  3. Enter the News (NNTP) server as collabra1.monash.edu.au; tick the box and press Next

  1. Enter the Account name (eg Monash Newsgroups). This is a descriptive label that appears in Outlook Express. Press Next
  2. Press Finish
  3. Select Yes to download newsgroups from Monash Newsgroups.

How to subscribe to a Monash Newsgroup in Outlook Express

  1. Select your newsgroup by pressing the descriptive label you assigned when setting up.
  2. Press Newsgroups from the right panel
  3. A list of available newsgroups should be displayed. If your newsgroup is unavailable, press Reset List to obtain a fresh list of newsgroups.
  4. Enter part of the newsgroup name into the Display newsgroups which contain: field. (eg. for any Law newsgroup enter "Law") or scroll and select the newsgroup from the list
  5. Select the newsgroup and press Subscribe. An icon will appear beside the subscribed newsgroups.

Your authcate username and password will be required for all newsgroups.
