Using the dial-up service

Connecting

Once your computer is configured to use the Monash Dial-up Service as per the appropriate configuration guide, the steps involved in using the dial-up service are:

  • Connect to the dial-up service, and enter your Monash Authcate username and password.
  • Check that you are connected by using a browser to access www.monash.edu.au
  • Establish a VPN session if you need to access the Internet (other than Monash sites).
  • When finished, disconnect the VPN session (if established) and then disconnect the dial-up session.

Reading Email

If you just want to read Monash emails, then use either:

However to use computer based mail clients, a VPN session must first be established, and the web browser `Proxy Settings’ must be correctly set. See below for details.

Internet Access

To access the Internet using the dial-up service, a VPN session must be established and the web browser must be correctly configured. See below for details.

Establishing a Virtual Private Network (VPN) session
If using the dial-up service to access the Internet or email through a computer based mail client, a VPN session must be established after connecting to the dial-up service.

Browser Configuration
