Keeping mobile phone costs downMobile to mobileTip: Use your Monash corporate mobile to call other Monash corporate mobiles rather than landlines as the charges are considerably cheaper.
Intra fleet mobile calls are charged at $0.10 for the first 10 minutes, then $0.14 per minute after 10 minutes. For more information see call charges from Monash desk(landline) phones and mobile telephone usage charges. Mobile to desktopWhere possible, use a desk phone to call another desk phone. Within Monash such calls are free. Forwarding callsDesk telephones should only be automatically forwarded to mobiles where necessary, as redirections are charged at a very high rate. Record your mobile contact number on your Monash extension's voicemail message instead. Voice costsBe aware of various call type charges. See Mobile telephone usage charge. Data costsYour phone will be subscribed to a data plan and these are charged differently, depending on the volume of data downloaded each month. The default is no plan which is charged at $2.00 per megabyte. What data plan am I on? Talk to your local Telephone delegate, and ask them to check your data plan with Solve Communications. How do I check my data usage? For handsets provided by Telstra: With most Telstra handsets you can use your phone's Internet Browser to visit: m.bigpond.com/myaccount Click on the "My Data Usage" link. Note: You must be connected only to the Telstra 3G network and not to Monash or home WiFi(wireless) for this link to work. Alternatively the following device specific guide may help.
Set your phone to use Monash Connect when on-campus Reduce data costs and avoid carrier data services by setting the handset to detect Monash wireless when available. Devices can be configured to use Monash wireless while on campus. Smart Phones as "Wifi Modems"Many smart phones allow the setup of WiFi(Wireless) hotspots so their user's can effectively use them to access the internet through their laptop or mobile device. This can assist with mobility, however it is important to understand that this uses Mobile 3G Data, and it is important an appropriate data plan is applied to your service before configuring this.
