Staff printing environment

Setting up a network printer can be done by faculty/department IT support staff. ITS Enterprise Workstation Support staff are available to provide assistance if required.

Setting up a printer that will be networked requires

  • local printer setup and physical connection to the network; a network data point may be required.
  • the creation of a Novell queue
  • if a printer is required for a special application such as SAP then additional request data must be completed.

Staff print usage reports

A Resources Manager may request that log files of print queue usage be kept. This is an option available when requesting queue creation or change.

The result of requesting this option is that detailed usage reports of a queue can be viewed for each month; the report is usually created during the first week of the next month. They can show the usernames of people who used the printer and the number of pages printed.

ITS does not make a specific charge for this additional log file and reporting service.

Staff nominated by the Resources Manager can be granted access to these reports by contacting the ITS Print Services Manager.
