ICT Projects

2008 ICT Development Portfolio

At the request of FiRM ITS coordinated the ICT project submissions for Strategic Initiative and Capital Works funding and formulated the proposed 2008 ICT Development Portfolio.

During 2007 ITS Planning Analysts were assigned to work with staff of major portfolios to develop 3 year ICT strategic roadmaps for each business area. Using the roadmaps, candidate projects for 2008 Strategic Initiative funding were identified and project concepts were collaboratively developed. ITS provided advice on capacity to deliver, relationships and dependencies with other portfolio’s projects and the maturity and suitability of proposed technologies and products. As a result some projects were withdrawn or deferred. Each portfolio then prioritised their ICT projects and submitted for Strategic Initiative funding only those initiatives that could deliver immediate benefits.

At the same time ITS section managers submitted an initial list of ICT Infrastructure projects. ITS Directors reviewed submissions to ensure they directly underpinned stated university goals and supported known and proposed ICT projects across the portfolios. Where projects could be delayed or could not demonstrate direct business benefits they were deferred or withdrawn.

As in previous years, a Task Force was convened, chaired by the Chief Finance Officer and consisting of Deputy Vice Chancellors, Vice Presidents and Divisional Directors, or their nominated representatives. The Task Force reviewed the proposed portfolio focussing on its alignment with Monash's business goals, identified synergies and efficiencies between projects and highlighted any clashes or duplication. In some cases the Task Force suggested changes and proposals were then refined by ITS and portfolio staff.

The final list of projects as endorsed by the Task Force was submitted to FiRM and finally approved at University Council. The approved 2008 ICT Development Portfolio consists of $17.9M across 26 projects.

Service Enhancement Projects

In addition to projects funded through Strategic Initiatives and Major Capital Works funding, ITS undertakes projects funded through operational or other funding sources. Where it is considered by ITS Directors to be appropriate, these projects are also listed as part of the 2008 ICT Development Portfolio.
