Application Integration
Description
This project commenced in 2007, the purpose being to implement a systematic approach to integrating existing and new application systems. The technology being employed has transformed the way that integration and interfacing are undertaken at Monash, which is now based on business processes rather than data. It has resulted in faster turnaround times between triggered business events, such as lifting Library borrowing embargoes immediately an outstanding payment is made, and reduced the mass of data flowing between applications by only communicating material changes.
Development time and cost has been reduced with a single business process interface able to be re-used across a number of applications, and errors and failures have decreased with far fewer interfaces to be monitored.
During 2009 the Application Integration project will focus on some key areas:
- Provision of integration services for the Business Intelligence project;
- Provision of integration services for Research Administration;
- Provision of interfaces with external client applications, including those of DEEWR, Centrelink and international student recruitment agencies; and
- Continued conversion of legacy integration services.
2009 is the final year of major development and interface conversion programs.
