Caulfield Data Centre Project

Description

The age and standard of the data centres at Monash University presents an unacceptable level of risk to the University. To mitigate these risks, the University has allocated $10.7m to build the first of two new data centres.

The proposal is to build a 500 square metre data centre at Caulfield campus that will house 200 racks accounting for around 50 percent of Monash IT data centre equipment. The centre will increase Monash’s capacity to cater for additional research and shared services needs while employing the latest efficiencies in ‘green’ data centre design, equipment selection and running.

The goal of the project is to deliver a high availability data centre based on energy efficient technologies, with sufficient capacity to meet the foreseeable needs of the University.

Completion of this facility is scheduled for June 2009.
