Information Systems Integration Project
Project description
This project involves the introduction of software and business standards that will enable the integration of applications based on business processes rather than data. A key concept is the creation of an Integration Competency Centre that will be charged with the responsibility of setting standards, prioritising the redevelopment of all existing interfaces and their migration to a production environment.
The potential benefits of this project cannot be underestimated. From small items like the elimination of complaints from students and staff arising from delays in triggered events (e.g. lifting of library borrowing penalties as an immediate result of outstanding fee payments or creation of LDAP accounts via real-time feeds from Callista and SAP HR) though to being able to track any manual or automated workflow event in any department or series of departments asynchronously (with the ability to analyse real-time the processes efficiencies and model alternatives).
This software is the lynch pin to the creation of web service registries for potentially every administrative function so that any faculty or centrally based system can interface interactively with any other system.
The project will also involve large amounts of consultation with business application owners on how to redefine existing interfaces between systems so that business efficiencies are either gained, or are achievable through future restructuring of processes.
The 2006 deliverables are a proof of concept, establishment of the Integration Competency Centre, mapping of all existing interfaces and development of a standard for BPEL coding conventions.
