Server Refresh Program

Description

The ITS Division currently manages $12M of server infrastructure. In accordance with industry practice and vendor support cycles servers are refreshed every 3-4 years. As new server technologies are introduced, ITS works to provide the same or increased capacity in as efficient a manner as possible.

To avoid the risk of extended outages and take advantage of technology improvements such as consolidation and virtualisation, about a third of the servers need to be replaced annually. Improved racking, reduced power consumption and lower air conditioning cost are some of the benefits.
