Enhanced email service
The enhanced email service for postgraduate research (PGR) students consists of two parts:
- Increased mailbox quota (300Mb)
- Email address of a style that is common to the faculty staff
- Access to use the Thunderbird email client
The increased mail quota allows the researcher to accumulate and manage
substantial correspondence with their research colleges. The use of a
staff like email address enhances the standing of the researcher as a
representative of the faculty that is supporting their research. These
extensions are added to the existing student email account and do not
interfere with formal mail from the institution (Monash) to the student.
No additional account or duplicate mailbox is required.
Setup Actions at Faculty IT Support
- Increased mail quota occurs automatically as a consequence of the
admission of the student to a PGR course.
- Decide on "staff like" address (eg: first.last@faculty.monash.edu.au or first.middle.last@faculty.monash.edu.au)
- For action by Faculty postmasters only: Within the regular email address
management interface, search for the student username and add a staff email
address. Set the staff email address as their primary email address.
Once this is complete, the staff email address will be shown as their "From"
address within both the portal and full webmail clients.
- If the student wishes to use the full Thunderbird email client, set it up
using the regular mail server settings and email client configuration guides. Note that
their username in this case is their student Authcate username.
