Please note that these instructions are for users running the first Service Pack or a fresh installation of Windows XP Home.
This means they are not running the latest patches and should click here and patch their systems.
Step 1: Open 'Start' menu
Click the 'Start' button located in the bottom left hand corner of your screen.

Step 2: Go to the 'Control Panel'
Inside the start menu you should find an option that says 'Control Panel'. Click this menu icon to continue.

Step 3: Pick 'Network and Internet Connections'.
Inside the Control Panel, click on 'Network and Internet Connections'. If your screen looks a little bit different to this, don't worry - Windows XP Control Panel has two different views, 'Classic View' or 'Category View'. This page focuses on using Category View but the differences are purely cosmetic.

Step 4: Click on 'Network Connections'
At this screen you will need to click on the 'Network Connections' option at the bottom of the screen.

Step 5: Right click your network connection, Left click 'Properties'
At this screen you should see one or more network connections, including the network connection you use to gain Internet connectivity.

Right click the icon that you use to gain Internet connectivity. Once you have done so a small window should appear. From there left click 'Properties'.

Step 6: Go to 'Advanced'
Click on the 'Advanced' tab in the upper right side of the screen.

Step 7: Activate the 'Internet Connection Firewall'
At this screen you should see a tickbox.

Click the checkbox and a tick should appear in it.

Congratulations, you have now successfully configured the Internet Connection Firewall for Windows XP!
