Step 1: Open 'Start' menu
Click the 'Start' button located in the bottom left hand corner of your screen.

Step 2: Go to the 'Control Panel'
Inside the start menu you should find an option that says 'Control Panel'. Click this menu icon to continue.

Step 3: Pick 'Network and Internet Connections'.
Inside the Control Panel, click on 'Network and Internet Connections'. If your screen looks a little bit different to this, don't worry - Windows XP Control Panel has two different views, 'Classic View' or 'Category View'. This page focuses on using Category View but the differences are purely cosmetic.

Step 4: Change Windows Firewall Settings
At this screen you will need to click on the 'Change Windows Firewall Settings' option.

Step 5: Ensure the Windows Firewall is turned on
At this screen you should see a radial dot in the 'On' position. Make sure you click on that option and that it is activated.

Click on the 'Ok' button at the bottom of the window to then save the configuration changes.
