Password Security

Keep your password to yourself

You must NOT share your password with anyone else.

Your username and password identify you to the Monash IT systems, so anyone who has access to your details will be able to do things like

  • subscribe your email address to spam mailing lists
  • use your email account to send spam to others
  • download files and/or access web pages on the internet, which may lead to you having to pay Internet billing charges
  • attempt to hack into other machines, which may lead to criminal and/or civil charges being laid against you
  • change or discontinue your enrolment, which may lead to extra charges or fines, and may be permanently held on your academic record.

Also, do not write your username and password on the same piece of paper - anyone who finds it will be able to use them straight away.

If you think someone else knows your password then change your passwords immediately.

Contact your local IT Support person or the ITS Service Desk for additional information.

As a reminder, you are responsible for all actions taken with your computer account. It is against the acceptable use policies to give your username and password to someone else to use.
