Broadband at Home Security

Broadband Internet access can increase computer security risks.

Follow these five simple steps to make your home computer more secure. However please be aware these five steps do not guarentee security for the system.

• Install the most recent operating system and software patches
• Use a software firewall
• Ensure that your virus scanner is up to date
• Use care to when handling emails
• Use the Monash VPN Client for sensitive data

Wireless Networks at Home

Users with wireless networks at home should be aware that other people, eg the neighbours, may be able to use their wireless network as well the intended users. Care should be taken when setting up wireless networks to prevent unauthorised access.
