Website security

Use websites with caution.

Read their privacy policies before giving your email address or other details. Websites requiring you to enter personal information such as credit cards details should have a closed padlock icon showing on your browser window indicating data will be encrypted.

You should always be aware of malicious websites. Do not trust sites (especially pop-up windows) that suggest you install any type of software – even if they claim the software will improve the security of your computer. The owners of these malicious websites often use this as an opportunity to install ‘spyware’ on your computer so they can track your passwords and internet banking details.
