Sophos anti-virus software

Monash ITS has licenced an anti-virus product called Sophos Anti-virus to replace the mix of anti-virus products which were previously licenced for different platforms. It is available on Windows PCs, Macintoshes and Windows servers as detailed below.

Staff workstations that are managed by ITS through the University Staff Novell network and ZENworks will be automatically upgraded to the new version of the software.

Windows NT/2000/XP Workstations on the Staff and Student Novell systems

Installation to Windows workstations in the Staff and Student Novell system is carried out automatically by the ZENworks software as part of the workstation management process.

Windows 2000/2003 servers, non-Novell Windows workstations

Sophos anti-virus may be installed on University servers running Windows 2000 or 2003, or on other University Windows computers that do not connect to the staff Novell network (this software includes support for Windows XP, 64-bit XP and Windows Vista).

Home Installations

Sophos anti-virus may be installed on Staff and Student Home PCs.

Macintosh OS-X 10.2 and above

A distribution of the Sophos anti-virus product for Macintoshes running OS-X version 10.2 and above is available for use both on and off campus. Installation instructions are available.
