Getting Started

Information Technology Services centrally manages a number of software products.   Please refer to the ITS Software Catalogue.
If the software you require has a green tick Yes this indicates that the software product may be installed on your machine, but please note that some software products will not be covered by a site license, and you may need to purchase a licence.   Always check the Software Catalogue for details on how and where the software product may be used.

License types:-

License Type Description

Site

  • Site/Enterprise licensed application licensed for the entire University.
  • No limit on number of installations if use conforms to the applicable License Agreement.
  • Conditions still apply (e.g. license may not cover use by staff at home or use by students

Limited Site

  • Limited Site/Enterprise licensed application licensed for specific areas/groups within campus.
  • No limit on number of installations if use conforms to the license agreement.
  • Other areas may be able to join license subject to contributing towards license cost
  • Conditions still apply

Purchase

  • Consumption or pay as you go license.
  • Licenses must be purchased as required.
  • Special discount licensing arrangements in place (if purchased from the endorsed supplier)

Free

  • Software available at no charge.
  • Specific conditions of use may still apply and need to be checked before installation.

Downloads


Software may be downloaded from the ITS Software Downloads
The software available on the University download site is easy to install. If you are having difficulties with installation, contact the ITS Service Desk or your Software Representative for assistance.

NAL (Novell Application Launcher)


Installing software via the NAL (Novell Application Launcher)
is an easy way to obtain some of the software packages that are most commonly used in the University.

Physical Media (CD and DVD)


Some software products can be obtained directly from your Software Representative and / or the ITS Service Desk. The latter only has the SPSS "Work at Home" media at this stage in time.

 

Purchasing a Licence

Any questions that you have regarding the process should be directed to your Software Representative in the first instance, and then to the ICT Vendor and Contract Management Group.
