Student printing reimbursements and transactions

Students are charged for the printing they do at a rate per side of paper.

The rates vary according to the size of the paper, A3 or A4, and according to whether the output is black on white or colour printing. The rates are standardised across Australian campuses although there are a few variations.

A small number of printers are free, but these are in supervised areas, and some colour printers with special characteristics are charged at a higher rate.

Faculties, Departments and Divisions own printers in the student environment and they maintain them by paying for repairs and consumables.

ITS maintains the associated networked print queues, their parameters and the charging software that is run under licence. ITS also maintains the mechanisms for students to deposit money into their printing account that is associated with their username.

At the end of each month ITS calculates the amounts to be reimbursed to each Faculty, Department and Division and generates a report.

Nominated staff can access these reports. Resources Managers can nominate staff by contacting the ITS Print Services Manager.

Students, and staff with student-like usernames, can obtain a report of their printing jobs and the deposits they have made, on an individual basis.

Staff who wish to test the operation of printers in the student environment must use their student-like username. Student-like usernames are obtained by submitting a request to the Service Desk. Note that 'MGR-' usernames cannot be used for testing as they have different rights to student and student-like usernames.

Students and student-like usernames must have a positive account balance to print. Money can be added to the account by:
