Archiving is for
capturing a snapshot of your
data at a point in time for historical purposes and may be kept for
extended periods. For example, by law financial records must be kept
for seven years. To comply, we need to take an archive copy of our
financial data and be able to restore this data for the next seven
years. The benefits of archiving are:
-
a snapshot or regular snapshots
of your data can be kept for a long period of time at a much cheaper
rate than backups
-
when used wisely with backups,
archives can usually achieve the retention period required more
cost effectively
Charges
The cost to store data in the archive system is $1.00 per
gigabyte as a once off charge.
All archived data is written to two separate media and stored in separate locations.
One hundred gigabytes of data sent to archive will use two hundred
gigabytes of media and attract a $200 charge. |
