Role Account Information

What is a role account?

A role account is an account that is assigned to a particular role (eg, ITS Service Desk), rather than to a particular person. The ID number of the person who is responsible for the role accounts is recorded as part of the role account entry, but the account will not expire when the ID number becomes invalid. Role accounts have at least the same minimum access as a standard staff account but receive no Calendar account unless a specific request is made.

What can a role account do?

  • Same access to mail, authcate, modems, etc as a normal staff account.
  • The account does not expire automatically when the manager of the account leaves Monash.
  • More than one role account can be linked to the same manager ID number.
  • No Calendar account created unless specifically requested.
