Videoconferencing Endpoint Naming Convention

Endpoints for Individuals or Personal Endpoints

  • can be a personal desktop PC
  • can be mobile like a personal laptop, but still a personal device
  • can be a personal standalone video conference device such as the Tandberg-150
  • can be videoconferencing client softwares such as Polycom PVX, Xmeeting, Ekiga, etc
[Firstname] [Lastname] -optional ([location/device type])
[Givenname] [Surname] -optional ([location/device type])

(must not have departmental prefix). Use the optional [location/device type] if user has more than 1 videoconferencing endpoints installed.

e.g.:
John Citizen
Duff Piddy (home)
Duff Piddy (laptop)
Sean Wayne (Berwick)
Sean Wayne (Peninsula)

Endpoints for General Users or Shared Endpoints

  • can be a desktop PC for videoconferencing shared by various users such as the Polycom PVX.
  • can be portable videoconferencing devices such as the Tandberg 150/1000/1700.
  • can be room-based videoconferencing systems such as Polycom VSX 7000.

All resources owned by the faculty/division MUST have the [Faculty/division prefix]. Note that shorthand that is understandable by a non-Monash person should be used, so instead of FIT use InfoTech, instead of MNHS use Medicine, etc. Please see examples below.

Monash [Faculty/division prefix] [Campus] [Device/Building/Department/Room details]

[Campus] is optional if the endpoint is not a fixed installation.

[Device/Building/Department/Room details] elements are optional based on what is available - e.g. if an unit is portable, room details will not be necessary.
