The reading group aims to:

  • provide a structured reading and discussion program on topics in user interface design for the web
  • discuss topics relevant to improving the knowledge and skills within the web design community at Monash
  • provide the Monash web design community with an opportunity to participate in a collaborative learning exercise.

How the group works

  • Monthly meetings (or thereabouts) with set readings covering a particular topic. See the timetable and agenda.
  • A list of discussion questions will be made available to focus reading and discussion
  • Only those who have completed the readings should attend - we want people to participate, and the only way to do this meaningfully is to have read the set papers and considered some of the questions that are set for discussion
  • There is no need to let us know you're coming - just do the reading, think about the set questions and turn up on the day.

Obtaining readings

We will generally use readings that are available online, but where they are not available you have two options:

  • borrow the book from the library and copy the relevant pages
  • come to the WRD team offices (building 203, 700 Blackburn Road) where we will have a copy available for you to make your own copy of the reading. You can use our photocopier to create your own copy but please don't ask us to copy and mail readings to you - we may not have the time to do so.
