Putting your database on the web: an overview
Note: Please note that this is an archived presentation and content may be out-of-date or incorrect.
Summary
This presentation gives an overview of how to put a database onto the web for small scale projects. Many people have databases on their desktop computers or on the Novell network which would ideally be accessible/maintained by a range of people from a range of locations. Such a situation lends itself to a web-enabled database as a solution.
A range of options for how to go about designing or adapting a database for the web are outlined, what sort of approach to use to web-enable access to the database and consider whether this is necessarily the best approach to data sharing. The tools available to achieve this in the current Monash web environment are also covered. A readily available option with a not-too-steep learning curve is to use an Oracle database accessed by php scripts.
