Summary
The .htaccess file allows a webmaster to perform many tasks within a website including:
- Specify custom error documents
- Add special document handlers and MIME types
- Set environment variables
- Redirect URLs from one to another
- Rewrite one URL into another
- Restrict documents to specific people
This presentation introduces the .htaccess file and gives examples of usage within the Monash ITS environment.
