Computer accounts

As a Monash student you are granted a computer account that is your main access to the university IT facilities. This is called an Authcate account and consists of a username and a password.

Your Authcate account is a combination of letters from your first name and surname. For instance, if your name is Fred Bloggs, your Authcate username will be: fblo1.

Your Authcate account enables you to access the Monash website and other resources which are protected by a password including:

  • Your Monash email account
  • Computers and software in the computer labs
  • Access to electronic services on the campus network system (the Novell system)
  • Access to your own network drive (the U: drive) where you can store your work files
  • Online enrolment facility
  • Exam results
  • Library resources
  • Protected internet resources such as Monash web pages and newsgroups
  • The my.monash portal
  • Monash University Studies Online (MUSO), including lecture notes
  • Access to other computer systems if required by the units you are studying

It is your responsibility to maintain the integrity of your account - letting other people use it may lead to disciplinary action.

The use of IT facilities and services by students is granted subject to a university policy called the Acceptable Use of Information Technology Facilities by Students policy. Students are expected to read and follow this policy. Breaching the policy or other misuse of the facilities and services may result in disciplinary action.
