Spam filtering for students

Monash University is undertaking several measures to reduce spam. Spam filters have been enabled by default on all email accounts. Once delivered, any emails which are determined to be spam by the ITS mail servers will be filtered into a separate 'spam' folder rather than being delivered . Spam messages are still able to viewed, and the contents of the folder is deleted every 30 days.

To enable, disable or change the spam filtering settings, students need only follow the spam filtering web instructions.

Additional information is available from the web pages below:

The filtering will operate prior to you seeing the emails and will operate whether you use the web-based WebMail (http://mail.monash.edu.au) or my. monash portal (http://my.monash.edu.au) interfaces to read your email.

Sometimes legitimate emails are marked as spam due to similar content or structure. If you find that emails from a specific sender, or group of senders, from the same organisation is continuously being filtered into your spam folder, you can 'whitelist' the sender's email address. This will guarantee that their emails aren't accidently filtered into your spam folder in the future.

To add white-list addresses, please follow the server-side white-listing instructions.

Note: Emails sent within Monash are never marked as spam.
