Getting started in 5 easy steps

1. Understand the Acceptable Use Policy

As a Monash student you are granted a computer account, called an Authcate account. This is your main access to the university IT facilities.

Access to your Authcate account is subject to a university policy called the Acceptable Use of Information Technology Facilities by Students. This includes information regarding internet usage and copyright infringement. While setting up your account, you will be asked to read the terms and conditions of this policy and agree to them. It is essential that all students understand their obligations in regard to the Acceptable Use Policy, as failure to comply can result in disciplinary action.

You can get your Authcate computer account online by going to: www.monash.edu.au/students/computer/ and selecting the Register for a new account link.

2. Access your email

Access to email is available as soon as you set up your Authcate account. Monash uses an email system called WebMail which allows you to access your Monash emails from a computer on the internet anywhere in the world.

Accessing your email is simple and is available through https://mail.monash.edu.au or the my.monash portal.

3. Check out your flexible access

Monash provides a range of electronic resource access options for students. State-of-the-art facilities are available in the on-campus computer laboratories, some of which provide 24-hour access, while remote access to the Monash network from off-campus is available to everybody. The university also provides wireless access on campus to those who prefer the option of portability.

4. Use my.monash

The university-wide intranet portal, my.monash, provides all students, whether on-campus, at home or work, with an immediate gateway to Monash’s online resources, including lectures, study timetables, library resources and email.

5. Find an ITS Service Desk

Monash provides comprehensive IT help facilities through the web, by phone and face-to-face on each campus. Information on opening times for the ITS Service Desks is available at www.its.monash.edu.au/contact/.
