Computer lab rules - Malaysia

  1. Each student is assigned one Windows NT account during their enrolment with Monash University Malaysia. This account is to be used only by the particular student and as long as he or she is a student of Monash University Malaysia.

  2. Each account is password protected. A student should change his or her password regularly and should not divulge it to any other person.

  3. Student needs to log into his/her account before using software in the computer labs or using any printing facilities.

    • Each student is allowed to print 100 pages without charges each semester. After that, each page will be charges at RM 0.10

    • To continue using the printer after 100 free pages, students will need to make an advance payment of RM 5 to the Finance Department for their next 50 pages. Students can pay more than RM 5 if they wish. However, the amount is NOT refundable at the end of the semester and will not count towards the next semester.

    • On making a payment to the Finance Department, a receipt will be issued to student and he/she will need to bring the receipt to the CSD Helpdesk in order to have the payment amount updated in the database.

    • The period is from 1 week before the beginning of the semester until the last day of the lab closing (a notice will be posted to inform students regarding the lab closing date).

  4. This laboratory is for the use of enrolled students of Monash University Malaysia. Students may be requested to present their student ID card to authorized staff. Students will not be allowed to use the computer lab without student ID.

  5. This laboratory and its facilities are provided for University course related and research purposes only.

  6. Students are not permitted to make use of University facilities for activities that may be in breach of the law or Copyright Act, or Monash University statues and Regulations.

  7. Students are not permitted to display or transmit offensive or obscene material, play computer games, or use IRC. Unauthorised access to accounts, data or files on University or other computer systems is expressly forbidden.

    • A warning will be given to a first offender.

    • A second offender will have his/her account disabled for one week.

    • A third offence will be referred to the Discipline Committee for further action.

  8. Students must NOT bring or consume food or drink in the laboratory.

  9. Please keep the labs in a clean and tidy state. Please do not move furniture.

  10. The operational hours of the computer lab are as follow:

  11. Monday to Friday: 8:30 am to 9:00pm
    Saturday 9:00 am to 5:00pm
    Closed on Sunday and Public Holidays

    Students are expected to send their last printouts to the printer by 8:30pm as the printer will be turn off at 8:45pm. This is to ensure that lab technicians will have sufficient time to close up all the computer labs. Students are expected to leave the lab by 9:00pm sharp and NOT start packing or sending data to the printer.

    If required by lab technician, students are expected to relocate to another computer lab between 7 pm to 8 pm for security purposes.

  12. Students are allowed to bring personal notebook to the computer lab but NOT allowed to connect personal notebook to Monash University Malaysia's network.

  13. To get support for any computer related problems, students are required to go to the Control Room located at the 2nd Floor within the computer labs area or choose any of the following options:
    • Send E-mail to: helpdesk@monash.edu.my
    • Use Problem Reporting Form: Write down the problem and submit to Control Room (The form is available in every computer lab)
