Forgot your password? Set your PIW.

5th October 2006

It's important to set your Personal Indentification Word (PIW) if you need to change your password or if you forget your password.

Your PIW acts as a 'spark' to help you remember your password. Common examples include 'my mother's maiden name' or 'my first pet'.

The PIW is not the same as your password, but it is subject to similar rules:

  • It should be at least eight characters in length.
  • It must be different to any of your initial password, your current password, or your identity number, and the reversed character sequences of these.
  • It cannot contain obvious character sequences such as abcd, qwerty, 1234 etc.
  • The phrase should not be one that someone else would either know, or could guess, the answer.

Monash recommends that you change your password every three months to prevent security breaches and you will need to know your current password to do this.

Visit the website to record or change your PIW.
