Publishing on Monash web serversWhat is a web server?A Web server is software installed on a machine to facilitate the delivery of web pages to web browsers. Monash has many web servers. This is partly for historical reasons, partly for ease of administration, and partly to enable serving different types of documents. Web page categories
Official Monash pagesEach organisational unit or group (e.g. faculty, department or centre) has an area on a web server to store their web files. Most group's pages are stored on the ITS web server cluster, although some use other web servers. Each area is managed by the group's webmaster, so if you want to have a page included in your group's area then you need to contact the relevant webmaster to arrange this. Your webmaster will need to agree that your pages are appropriate for the official Monash web tree and will then organise for your pages to be placed on the web. Your Webmaster's contact details should be available from your Faculty or unit's web page or from the webmasters' list provided by ITS. Personal pagesStaff members and postgraduate students can obtain an account which will enable them to publish personal web pages on the ITS personal web cluster (sng). You may also be able to publish personal web pages from a Faculty or Department based web server. All personal web pages are subject to the Electronic Access Policy for Staff (under development). A personal website must carry a disclaimer, which states that the website is not authorised by Monash University and that any opinions expressed on the pages are those of the staff member and not those of the University. Pages may also be published from yoyo, a 'general access' machine maintained by IT students. If you have an account which you are unsure about, you can check with the ITS Service Desk. How to get an accountIf you do not have such an account you can obtain one in one of the following ways:
